As replacing the windows is financially not an option, I wondered if a high end finish could be achieved by painting them? What would you recommend? How do I calculate how much Zinnser allcoat exterior solvent I need for say a 3 bed semi detached.

Mine is the type that is encased in a uPVC type finish. Thanks for your question; we would not recommend Zinsser Allcoat Exterior be used on any flooring substrates as it is not designed to receive that kind of traffic. Instead we would recommend Smartkote Safekote which will offer an anti-slip finish suitable for application on plastics. Thank you for your question. The uPVC will need to be clean, dry, lightly abraded and thoroughly degreased prior to application. Can Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Satin also be used on radiators? We have dark coloured PVC windowframes and the coloured foil is coming off due to exposure to sun. As it peels off it leaves a glue residue on the original dark grey plastic.
Can you recommend an effective solvent to remove the residue prior to painting? Are there other steps needed to prepare for painting with the Zinnser Allcoat or other suitable coating. The original frames which I am trying to match had a very delicate woodgrain pattern. Is there any way to replicate that in painting the frames. Thank you very much for getting in touch. We would suggest looking for an alternative such as a sticker remover to remove the residue before cleaning everything with Zinsser Universal Degreaser Cleaner then applying the Zinsser Allcoat.

Hi, I have a PVC framework, made from standard square downpipe. Is the Zinsser Waterbesed Allcoat Exterior suitable for this type of application? Does it withstand the occasional knock and bump? Many thanks for your question. We would usually recommend a 2 pack system for any application where the substrate could receive more abrasion than normal. In this instance we would recommend Technispray Kolorbond DecoPro which is a brushable version of Kolorbond K2 for this project. The surface would need to be suitably prepared with Technispray Vinylkleen followed by Technispray Windowprep before application.

Try out on a piece of dark plastic first perhaps, but I have no doubt it would do the job!

Did you use a reasonable quality new brush and stir the paint up well? Did you keep a wet edge? Anything can be rectified … a quick sand down and going at it again will bring it up fine. Zinsser is really good so unlikely that is the issue … so helpful to understand better what you experienced in applying the two coats..
Good luck!! Amazing transformation! Looks great! I decided against it with this door as there were too many moulded details so needed a brush for those anyway. For a flat panel door, roller away! Just a quick point as a decorator I have painted many smooth surfaces and I find that the paint is best applied using a sponge or short pole roller.
This gives a very slight dimple effect on the door or surface and eliminates brush strokes leaving a much better finish. Two questions, does it scratch? I have followed your blog and done exactly he same with great results the same as you now looking at different projects too.
